Character background and lore
Released in cinemas in 2001 by Pixar Studios, Monsters, Inc. is an unmissable masterpiece of animated cinema. The story is set in Monstropolis, a parallel city inhabited by monsters and powered by the screams of human children, collected every night by elite agents known as ‘Scare Crew’. The factory’s routine is turned upside down when Boo, a tiny human girl no taller than three apples, accidentally steps through her wardrobe door and becomes attached to Jacques Sullivent (Sulli) and Bob Razowski.
In the world of monsters, human children are regarded as carriers of highly toxic and deadly diseases. In order to keep her out of the hands of the Decontamination Unit (the CDA) and discreetly return her home, Sulli and Bob pull out all the stops. They make her a monster costume out of odds and ends, consisting of an old purple fabric with a scaly texture, arms made from fringed broom tentacles, and a hood topped with fake, bulging plastic eyes. This figurine perfectly captures all of Bouh’s innocence beneath this zany disguise, symbolising one of the most touching and funny duos in the history of Pixar Studios.
