Origin and character lore

Spider-Man’s black suit first appeared in Marvel comics in the mid-1980s, during the Secret Wars event. Whilst on Battleworld with several other superheroes, Peter Parker seeks to replace his damaged suit and comes into contact with what he believes to be technology capable of creating a new outfit. He thus discovers a black suit capable of moulding itself around his body and producing its own web-like substance.

Back on Earth, Peter gradually realises that this suit is not merely a piece of clothing: it is a living alien organism, a symbiote, which has bonded with him both physically and mentally. The suit has its own instincts and seeks to strengthen its bond with its host, which ultimately drives Spider-Man to rid himself of it.

Rejected by Peter Parker, the symbiote develops a deep grudge against him before bonding with Eddie Brock. From this union emerges Venom, one of Spider-Man’s most famous adversaries, who would later become at times an enemy and at times an anti-hero in the Marvel universe.

Even after abandoning the actual symbiote, Spider-Man has regularly worn fabric versions of his black suit. Its minimalist design, dominated by black and the large white spider emblem, has thus become one of the character’s most iconic alternative looks. This Iron Studios figurine faithfully recreates this silhouette, which has become inextricably linked to the history of Spider-Man.
