Meet Miles Morales, one of the most iconic Spider-Men in the Marvel Universe, with this POP! Nooks – Miles Morales in Bedroom diorama produced by Funko. This creation is more than just a traditional figurine: it places Miles in a three-dimensional recreation of his bedroom, specially designed to be displayed on a shelf, amongst books or alongside other Marvel collectables.
Miles appears in his black and red Spider-Man suit, his face uncovered, striking a dynamic pose above his bed. He is holding his mask in his hand, whilst the setting is packed with details evoking his everyday life: a bed with a red duvet, books, trainers, drawings of spiders, a photograph, notes and a ‘Brooklyn’ pennant pinned to the wall. This scene deliberately contrasts his superhero identity with the personal surroundings of a New York teenager.
Miles Morales is an incarnation of Spider-Man who originally appeared in Marvel’s alternate reality, Earth-1610. A teenager living in Brooklyn, he gains his powers after being bitten by a genetically modified spider. Following the death of his universe’s Peter Parker, Miles eventually accepts the legacy left by him and becomes Spider-Man in his own right.
His journey centres largely on the difficult balance between his responsibilities as a superhero and his everyday life as a teenager. Marvel emphasises in particular that he must conceal his identity from his parents whilst being able to rely on a few trusted friends, including his best friend Ganke. This duality between his personal life and his heroic activities is one of the character’s key aspects
Miles retains several of Spider-Man’s signature abilities, but gradually establishes himself as a hero with his own identity and his own way of wearing the mask. Marvel portrays him as a young hero who is initially hesitant but eventually comes to fully embrace the role of Spider-Man and carve out a place for himself amongst New York’s leading protectors.
The POP! Nooks concept is particularly well suited to this side of Miles Morales: rather than depicting him solely in battle, Funko places him in the privacy of his Brooklyn bedroom, surrounded by his personal belongings and momentarily unmasked. The diorama thus brings together the two sides of the character – Miles the teenager and Spider-Man the hero – in a single composition.
