Origin and character background (Lore)

Doctor Doom, whose real name is Victor Von Doom, is one of the most famous supervillains in the Marvel universe. An exceptional scientist and sorcerer, he rules over the fictional nation of Latveria, of which he is both the absolute ruler and the self-proclaimed protector.

His story is closely linked to that of Reed Richards, alias Mister Fantastic. The two men met whilst they were still students, but Victor’s immense pride and an accident that occurred during one of his experiments helped to turn their rivalry into a lasting feud.

Doom conceals his face behind a metal mask and wears highly advanced technological armour, complemented by a green cape and hood. Unlike many of the Marvel heroes’ adversaries, he combines exceptional scientific knowledge with a profound mastery of the mystical arts.

As the Fantastic Four’s arch-enemy, Doctor Doom has also clashed with numerous other Marvel heroes, including the Avengers, Iron Man and Spider-Man. His intelligence, ambition and conviction that he is the only leader capable of imposing lasting order on the world make him one of Marvel’s most complex and iconic antagonists.
