Character background and universe (Lore)
In the cult universe of the Macross Plus OVA,the YF-19 (known by the code name "Alpha One") is a 4th-generation variable fighter prototype developed by Shinsei Industry. Designed as part of the secret Super Nova project on the planet Eden, this revolutionary aircraft is in direct competition with General Galaxy’s YF-21 to become the next flagship of the New UN Army. The YF-19 stands out for its fluid transformation capabilities across three distinct combat configurations: Fighter mode (ultra-fast fighter jet), Gerwalk mode (hybrid configuration with vector thrust) and Battroid mode (humanoid mecha form).
The craft is piloted by the hot-headed Isamu Alva Dyson, an elite pilot as undisciplined as he is talented. Equipped with a state-of-the-art weapon system, extreme manoeuvrability that pushes the physical limits of human pilots, and an identification barrier system, the YF-19 is designed to adapt to any crisis situation. Its timeless design, combining aerodynamic lines inspired by modern aviation with complex mecha engineering, makes it one of the most respected war machines in the entire Japanese aviation saga.
