This Sleeping Smurf money box from Plastoy transforms one of the most peaceful inhabitants of the Smurf village into a decorative and functional item. Made from PVC and measuring approximately 16 cm in height, it depicts the character enjoying his favourite pastime: having a nap.
Sleepy Smurf is depicted sitting, fast asleep, at the foot of a large red mushroom with white spots. With his eyes closed and his arms folded across his chest, he wears his traditional white cap whilst his legs are stretched out in front of him. The mushroom forms the main element of the design, with its wide red cap, beige stem and a small green base evoking the forest floor.
Beyond its function as a money box, the piece forms a small decorative scene dedicated to the world created by Peyo. Its 16 cm size means it can easily be placed on a shelf, a piece of furniture or in a bedroom, whilst still making a striking enough visual impression to feature in a collection dedicated to the Smurfs.

The Smurfs were created by the Belgian cartoonist Peyo and first appeared in 1958 in the adventures of Johan and Pirlouit, before becoming the heroes of their own series. These little blue creatures live in a village of mushroom-shaped houses hidden deep in the heart of the forest, under the benevolent rule of Papa Smurf.
Sleepy Smurf, usually referred to as Lazy Smurf in the comics, is characterised by his almost constant desire to sleep. He seizes every opportunity to take a nap and regularly tries to shirk the various tasks carried out by the other villagers. His temperament is a recurring source of humour in the series, with the other Smurfs frequently trying to get him back to work.
This trait is particularly central to *The Strange Awakening of the Lazy Smurf*, in which his companions try to teach him a lesson by making him believe he has been asleep for two hundred years. The Plastoy piggy bank captures precisely this aspect of the character: comfortably settled under a mushroom, Sleepy Smurf seems to have found the ideal spot for another nap.
