LORD OF THE RINGS - Barad-Dur - Tankard 850ml

This Lord of the Rings beer mug is inspired by Barad-dûr, Sauron’s fortress situated at the heart of Mordor. Manufactured by Paladone, it has a stated capacity of 850 ml and features a relief-carved design that transforms the entire mug into a true representation of the Lord of the Rings universe.

The body features several elements emblematic of Sauron’s forces. One side depicts the Dark Lord’s helmet surrounded by large orange flames, whilst another side shows the towering tower of Barad-dûr, dominated by the Eye of Sauron. The rocky surfaces, mountain ranges, dark architecture and reliefs of Mordor reinforce the mug’s imposing appearance.

The handle is also sculpted, with a metallic and rocky appearance complemented by a decorative gold ring bearing the characters of the inscription from the One Ring. The images also show a removable cylindrical inner container, allowing the part intended to hold the drink to be separated from the richly decorated outer shell.

Origin and lore of Barad-dûr

Barad-dûr, whose name means ‘Dark Tower’ in Sindarin, is Sauron’s great fortress in Mordor. Built to serve as the centre of his power, it is one of the most menacing places in Middle-earth and towers over the volcanic lands near Mount Doom.

Sauron had Barad-dûr built during the Second Age. Part of the power used to lay its foundations is linked to the One Ring, which prevents the fortress from being completely destroyed as long as the Ring continues to exist. After Sauron’s defeat at the end of the Second Age, the tower was dismantled, but its foundations remained.

As Sauron gradually regained his power during the Third Age, Barad-dûr was rebuilt and once again became the centre of his power. From Mordor, the Dark Lord gathered his armies and sought to reclaim the One Ring in order to rule the free peoples of Middle-earth once and for all.

In the imagery of the film adaptations of *The Lord of the Rings*, Barad-dûr is dominated by the immense Eye of Sauron, surrounded by flames. It is this instantly recognisable image that the tankard features, combining it with the Dark Lord’s helmet, the landscapes of Mordor and the One Ring.
