THE LITTLE PRINCE - Little Prince on the Planet - Money Box PVC 18cm

Plastoy brings the poetic world of *The Little Prince* to life in this figurative PVC money box, approximately 18 cm tall. Inspired by the work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, it depicts the Little Prince sitting on his little planet, tenderly holding a sheep in his arms. The design thus incorporates two elements immediately associated with the story: the young traveller’s asteroid and the sheep he asks the narrator to draw for him.

The character retains his classic appearance with his golden hair, green outfit, brown boots and long yellow scarf fluttering behind him. The Little Prince’s closed eyes and calm posture reinforce the gentle atmosphere of the composition. The white sheep is nestled against him, whilst the small, pale blue celestial body serving as the background is dotted with white shapes reminiscent of clouds.

The design features rounded shapes and soft colours in keeping with the visual style typically associated with illustrations of The Little Prince. Standing 18 cm tall, the piece can easily be displayed on a shelf, a desk or in a bedroom, where it serves both as a decorative item and a money box. Being made of PVC also makes it lighter and less fragile than a traditional ceramic money box.

Origin and background of the character (Lore)

The Little Prince is the central character in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s story, first published in 1943. This little boy with golden hair comes from asteroid B 612, a tiny planet where he tends three volcanoes and looks after a rose to which he is deeply attached. After leaving his asteroid, he travels from planet to planet before arriving on Earth, where he meets, amongst others, a fox and the story’s narrator.

The sheep depicted on this money box refers directly to the first encounter between the Little Prince and the narrator. The narrator, a pilot who has crash-landed in the Sahara Desert after his aeroplane broke down, sees the young boy appear and ask him to draw a sheep. After several attempts that did not satisfy him, the pilot finally drew a box, explaining that the sheep he wanted was inside.

The sheep then takes on particular significance when the narrator realises the Little Prince’s concern: on B 612, the animal might eat the young baobab shoots, but also his rose. This seemingly simple question thus ties in with one of the book’s major themes: that of responsibility towards the things we love.

By bringing together the Little Prince, his sheep and his little planet in a single design, this Plastoy piggy bank thus unites several key symbols from the story and captures the tender, contemplative atmosphere of Saint-Exupéry’s work.
