From the Kingdom series, this Banpresto figurine depicts Shin, the protagonist of Yasuhisa Hara’s work and commander of the Hi Shin unit. Part of the Grandista collection, it is a particularly imposing figure, standing approximately 31 cm tall, designed to highlight the young warrior’s stature and his military equipment.
Shin is depicted standing in his blue armour, composed of numerous segmented plates, with matching shoulder, forearm and leg guards. His blue tunic falls below the armour, paired with light-coloured trousers and a wide grey belt. The sculpture adopts an upright and confident posture, with legs apart and his left fist clenched, reflecting the character’s resolute demeanour on the battlefield.
The most striking feature of this version is the large guandao / broadsword slung over his right shoulder, featuring a long red hilt and a broad, curved blade. A sword is also visible in its scabbard on his back. This combination of weapons and the Grandista scale give the figure a particularly imposing upright silhouette, whilst reflecting Shin’s evolution from a young swordsman to a military leader wielding a polearm on the battlefield.
Shin is the main hero of Kingdom, a series set during the Warring States period of ancient China. Born into humble circumstances and raised as a servant, he has harboured the ambition to become a ‘Great General under Heaven’ since childhood. His encounter with the young King of Qin, Ei Sei / Ying Zheng, turns his life upside down: the two fight side by side during the coup d’état that threatens the throne and gradually develop a relationship built on trust.
Shin then joins the Qin army and gradually rises through the ranks thanks to his exploits on various battlefields. He becomes the leader of the Hi Shin Unit, a name bestowed upon him by the great general Ouki, whom he regards as one of his mentors and role models. The anime’s official profile highlights his immense power in battle, his tenacity and his ability to instinctively understand the course of a battle – qualities that align him with the profile of an instinctive general.
Alongside Ei Sei, whose aim is to unify the various kingdoms, Shin thus pursues his own dream of becoming one of the greatest generals of his era. He also maintains a long-standing rivalry with other young Qin commanders such as Mouten and Ouhon, each of whom is rising through the military ranks as the campaigns progress.
This Grandista figure specifically highlights the character’s military development: Shin is no longer depicted as the young soldier he was at the start of his career, but as an experienced warrior in armour, armed with an imposing polearm and exuding the confidence gained through his many campaigns.
