Origin and concept of the collection
Funko's Kawaii Foodies collection is directly inspired by the "kawaii" cultural and aesthetic movement, which emerged in Japan in the 1970s and is characterised by representations of characters with childlike, cute and simplified features. This specific range fuses elements of popular global gastronomy and catering with stylised anthropomorphic features. For this model, the object is based on sushi, the emblematic dish of Japanese cuisine traditionally made from vinegared rice (shari) combined with another ingredient, usually raw fish or seafood. The design revisits this food in the form of a playful superimposition of stacked ingredients, with faces and refined graphic expressions typical of this visual movement.
