Character background and lore

Naoya Zenin is a prominent member of the Zenin clan, one of the three great families of exorcists in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Ambitious, arrogant and particularly convinced of his own superiority, he seeks to establish himself as one of the clan’s natural heirs.

He has mastered Projection Sorcery, a technique inherited from the Zenin family which splits a single moment into several predefined images, allowing the user to move at extremely high speeds provided they follow the chosen trajectory. This ability makes Naoya a particularly difficult opponent to track and anticipate.

His contemptuous nature and rigid convictions quickly bring him into conflict with several members of his own family, notably Maki Zenin. Their confrontation plays a significant role in the clan’s development and helps to make Naoya one of the most memorable antagonists in this part of the story.

As events surrounding the Culling Game unfold, Naoya continues to play a key role in the conflict centring on the Zenin clan and Maki, cementing his status as a character who is as powerful as he is deeply controversial within the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
