Character origin and lore

Syrax is the dragon bound to Rhaenyra Targaryen in *House of the Dragon*. Recognisable by her golden-yellow scales, she is named after a deity from ancient Valyria and accompanies Rhaenyra on her travels, notably above King’s Landing and Dragonstone.

Against the backdrop of the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that divides House Targaryen, Syrax becomes one of the symbols of the Black camp supporting Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne. Like the other dragons of the dynasty, she directly embodies the military and political power of the Targaryens.
