GUNDAM - MG 1/100 RX-78-5 GUNDAM

GUNDAM SIDE STORY – MG 1/100 RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5 “G05” – Model Kit

Discover the RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5, also known as the G05, with this 1/100 scale Master Grade model kit from Bandai Spirits. Taken from the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash… universe, this experimental unit of the Earth Federation immediately stands out thanks to its red accents and, above all, its impressive Giant Gatling, the true hallmark of this Mobile Suit.

This Master Grade version accurately reproduces the mechanical design of the Gundam Unit 5 and features an articulated construction that allows for a wide range of display poses. In particular, the shoulder joints can be extended forwards to facilitate two-handed poses with the weaponry, whilst several parts of the model reveal mechanical details beneath the armour. Bandai also allows for various configurations thanks to the additional shoulder thrusters and removable propellant tanks.

The centrepiece of its arsenal is its imposing Giant Gatling, fed by an ammunition belt connected to the container mounted on the Mobile Suit. This heavy weapon gives the G05 a particularly spectacular silhouette and clearly distinguishes it from other units in the RX-78 programme. The kit also includes a Beam Rifle, Beam Sabres and a shield to allow for a variety of poses and combat configurations.

The parts are moulded in different colours and use the snap-fit assembly system characteristic of Bandai Gunpla. No glue is required for assembly, and painting is optional. Decals are provided to complete the model’s finish, whilst enthusiasts can add panel lining, paint or weathering effects to further enhance its military appearance.

The RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5 is part of a series of experimental units developed from the Earth Federation’s RX-78 programme. Designed primarily for space operations, the G05 shares much of its design with the RX-78-4 Gundam Unit 4, but adopts a different armament philosophy. Its imposing Giant Gatling prioritises sustained firepower, whilst its additional equipment enhances its performance and autonomy in space.

Piloted by Ford Romfellow, the Gundam Unit 5 features notably in *Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash…*, a story set during the final stages of the One Year War in Universal Century 0079. Alongside the Gundam Unit 4, it takes part in the Federation’s space operations and helps to shape the history of the experimental Gundams built alongside Amuro Ray’s famous RX-78-2. Its heavy armament and distinctive red livery have made the G05 one of the most recognisable variants in this family of Mobile Suits.
