GREMLINS 2 - Gremlins Diorama - Statue Art Scale 1/10 24.3cm

Iron Studios brings together Gizmo and several Gremlins in this 1/10 scale Art Scale diorama inspired by the Gremlins universe. Standing approximately 24.3 cm tall, the display fully captures the blend of black humour, chaos and cinematic references that characterises the franchise, with several creatures gathered around a pool table that has been transformed into a veritable playground.

The scene is brimming with detail. Gizmo is hidden inside a motorbike helmet placed in the centre of the pool table, whilst a Gremlin wearing 3D glasses devours some popcorn. Above him, Stripe is recognisable by his large white crest and is holding a pack of playing cards. On the right, another Gremlin is wearing an ‘I ♥ NY’ T-shirt, a novelty crown and holding a cup – a direct reference to the New York setting of *Gremlins 2: The New Batch*. Scattered pool balls, cues, drinks, food and accessories accentuate the impression of chaos left by the creatures.

The base takes the form of a highly detailed wooden pool table, upon which the figures are arranged at different heights to lend movement to the whole scene. The sculpture highlights the Gremlins’ scaly textures, their large ears, their teeth and the numerous small accessories that give each creature its own distinct character. Gizmo provides a heart-warming contrast amidst this deliberately chaotic scene.

Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

The world of Gremlins begins with the Mogwai, small creatures of which Gizmo is the most famous example. Their owner must follow three essential rules: avoid exposing them to bright light, especially sunlight; never get them wet; and, above all, never feed them after midnight. When these rules are broken, the consequences quickly spiral out of control.

Water causes the Mogwai to multiply, whilst a meal after midnight triggers a far more disturbing transformation. The creatures then form cocoons from which the Gremlins emerge – aggressive, rowdy reptilian beings with a keen taste for chaos. Stripe becomes the ringleader of these creatures in the first film, leading the other Gremlins on a rampage of destruction across the town of Kingston Falls.

*Gremlins 2: The New Batch* shifts the action to New York. Gizmo finds himself in the Clamp Centre, a gigantic skyscraper housing offices, television studios, laboratories and shops. Another accidental breeding spree gives rise to an army of Gremlins that gradually invades the building. Several of them come into contact with experimental substances and develop unusual appearances or abilities, taking the absurd and satirical tone of the first film even further.

This Iron Studios diorama perfectly captures the anarchic spirit of the franchise. The Gremlin wearing the ‘I ♥ NY’ T-shirt is a direct reference to the New York setting of the second film, whilst Stripe, Gizmo in his helmet, the 3D glasses, the popcorn and the numerous accessories all serve as nods to the now-iconic imagery of Gremlins. The piece as a whole thus focuses on a general celebration of the saga rather than a literal reproduction of a single scene.
