Character background and universe (Lore)

Rafael J. Melendez, nicknamed ‘Zap’, is one of the thirteen original members of the G.I. Joe team. Originally from New York, he specialises in military engineering and infantry artillery, with particular expertise in armour-piercing weapons, anti-tank systems and explosives.

His training in engineering, weaponry and infantry combat makes him the team’s specialist when a mission requires the neutralisation of armoured vehicles or the carrying out of demolition operations. Despite the dangerous nature of his equipment, Zap is renowned for keeping his cool under enemy fire.

Throughout his clashes with Cobra, he uses his experience to identify the weak points of enemy installations and vehicles before attacking them with his heavy arsenal. This Classified Series version pays tribute to his status as a founding member of G.I. Joe by featuring a design directly inspired by his classic ‘A Real American Hero’ action figure.
