Character background and lore

Evil Eye is a major yokai from Dandadan whose story is closely linked to Jin Enjoji, nicknamed Jiji. After moving into a new house with his parents, Jiji begins to see this strange man in his underwear, who also haunts him in his dreams.

It turns out that the house was built on an ancient site once used for human sacrifices. For generations, victims were offered there to appease the forces linked to the local volcano and a gigantic subterranean creature.

Evil Eye has its origins in one of these victims. His tragic past and accumulated suffering have transformed his spirit into an extremely powerful entity, driven by a deep resentment towards humans.

When Jiji discovers his story, he feels compassion for him. This empathy ultimately allows Evil Eye to take possession of his body, giving rise to a transformation endowed with considerable physical and supernatural abilities.

Under Evil Eye’s influence, Jiji’s appearance changes radically and his behaviour becomes particularly aggressive. Okarun is forced to confront him, whilst Momo and their allies seek a way to free Jiji without permanently destroying the spirit that inhabits him.

Jiji ultimately refuses to allow the entity to be simply eliminated. A form of coexistence gradually develops between him and Evil Eye, although Jiji must learn to control his transformations and prevent the spirit from attacking those around him.

POP! Animation No. 2629 depicts Evil Eye precisely in this supernatural form, with his third eye, white hair, pale body and a kicking pose that directly reflects his explosive fighting style.
