Origin and character background (Lore)

Lightning McQueen is the hero of *Cars*, a Disney·Pixar animated film released in 2006. This red racing car, bearing the number 95, begins his story as a particularly talented young driver, entirely focused on victory, fame and his goal of winning the prestigious Piston Cup.

On his way to a decisive race, Flash accidentally ends up in Radiator Springs, a small town situated along the old Route 66. There, he meets Martin, Sally and Doc Hudson, amongst others. This enforced stay gradually changes his outlook on competition and helps him discover the importance of friendship, mutual support and the journey itself, beyond mere victory.

The number 95, featured several times on this cover, has become one of Flash McQueen’s most recognisable features. Disney officially presents him as a number 95 racing car with a passion for speed, who, over the course of the saga, has become one of the central figures in Radiator Springs. The cover’s design thus directly incorporates the symbols associated with the character: red bodywork, racing number, trophies and chequered flags.
