Origin and world of the Capybara (Lore)

The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a mammal native to South America and is the world’s largest living rodent. Closely related to guinea pigs, it has a massive body that can reach a length of around 1 to 1.3 metres and leads a life closely associated with wetlands.

A semi-aquatic animal, the capybara frequents riverbanks, marshes, ponds and other environments with access to water. Its slightly webbed feet make it easy for it to move through water, and it can remain submerged for several minutes when trying to escape danger. Its diet is primarily herbivorous and consists mainly of grasses and aquatic plants.

Capybaras are also highly social animals, generally living in groups and communicating through various sounds such as barks, whistles and small cries. Their calm, gregarious behaviour has largely contributed to the peaceful image now associated with them in popular culture and in kawaii-style illustrations.
