Artist’s background and context
Britney Spears is an American singer-songwriter, dancer and actress who had a profound impact on the music industry in the late 1990s and 2000s. The pose and outfit of this figurine are directly inspired by the music video for her very first internationally successful single, …Baby One More Time, released in late 1998. Directed by Nigel Dick, the video features the young singer dressed in a reimagined schoolgirl’s uniform, eagerly awaiting the end of lessons so she can sing and dance in the school corridors. The song and its accompanying video catapulted her career, making her a key figure in global pop culture.
