THE BIG O – Big O – MODEROID Plastic Model Kit, 23 cm

Rediscover the Big O, the imposing Megadeus piloted by Roger Smith in the animated series The Big O, with this MODEROID model kit produced by Good Smile Company. Once assembled, the robot stands approximately 23 cm tall and faithfully reproduces its massive silhouette, imposing black armour and the characteristic proportions of the mecha designed for the Sunrise series.

The kit features several functions directly inspired by the anime. The cockpit can be displayed either open or closed, whilst the Big O’s eyes can be illuminated using the included LED module. Three batteries are required to use this function and are sold separately. The articulated Strike Piles also allow you to recreate the build-up to the iconic Sudden Impact attack, whilst the Missile Party and Cannon Party weapon systems can be displayed in their deployed positions.

Roger Smith’s Griffon vehicle is also included and can be stored directly inside the Big O’s foot, just as in the series. The various parts are arranged on multi-coloured sprues and some parts are pre-painted, allowing you to achieve a look close to the model shown without needing to paint the entire model. The kit remains customisable, however, for enthusiasts wishing to take the finish a step further.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Big O is one of the gigantic robots known as Megadeus in the universe of The Big O. Measuring approximately 30 metres in the series, it belongs to the category of machines known as ‘The Big’ and recognises Roger Smith as its Dominus – that is, the individual capable of piloting it. His signature attack is the Sudden Impact, a strike delivered with his powerful arms and enhanced by his Strike Pile mechanisms.

The story is set in Paradigm City, a metropolis whose inhabitants lost their memories following a mysterious event that occurred forty years earlier. The catastrophe nearly wiped out civilisation and erased much of the knowledge relating to the old world. Despite this collective amnesia, the population has rebuilt a society by utilising the technologies still available.

Roger Smith works there as a negotiator and handles the city’s most delicate affairs. When negotiations are no longer enough, he calls upon Big O to confront the other Megadeus and the threats arising from the forgotten technologies of the past. He is accompanied, in particular, by the android R. Dorothy Wayneright and her butler Norman.

Big O itself remains closely linked to the mystery surrounding the lost ‘Memories’ of Paradigm City. Its origins, the reason why Roger was chosen as Dominus, and the other giant machines emerging from the past form an essential part of the series’ plot. This MODEROID model kit reproduces several of his most distinctive pieces of equipment, including the Strike Piles, the missile and cannon batteries, and Roger’s Griffon.
