STUDIO GHIBLI - My Neighbor Totoro - Enamel Teapot 1.1L

This Skater enamelled teapot/kettle is inspired by Studio Ghibli’s film *My Neighbour Totoro* and features the famous Noiraudes, also known as Susuwatari. With a capacity of 1.1 litres and a long spout, it is designed to heat and then pour water precisely for tea, coffee or other hot drinks.

The design features a glossy white finish accented with black and grey motifs, including several small Noiraudes. The inscription ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ completes the design, whilst the dark blue trim on the lid and certain borders adds a subtle contrast to the overall look.

Made from enamelled steel, this teapot has a smooth surface that is easy to clean and resistant to odours. Its slender spout is particularly well-suited to controlled pouring, especially when making filter coffee. The product can be used on a range of compatible heat sources.

Origin and background of the licence (Lore)

My Neighbour Totoro is an animated film by Studio Ghibli, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story follows the young sisters Satsuki and Mei, who move with their father to a house in the countryside to live closer to the hospital where their mother is staying.

As they explore their new surroundings, the two children gradually discover the existence of mysterious and benevolent creatures connected to nature. Among them is Totoro, a great spirit of the forest who becomes one of Studio Ghibli’s most iconic characters.

The little black creatures depicted on this teapot are the Susuwatari, commonly known as ‘Noiraudes’ in the French version. They appear as small, living balls of soot that inhabit old, uninhabited houses.

In My Neighbour Totoro, Satsuki and Mei spot them shortly after arriving at their new home. Shy and elusive, they eventually leave the premises once the family settles in for good.

The Noiraudes also appear in a similar form in Spirited Away, where they work in Kamaji’s boiler room. Their simple yet expressive silhouette has become one of the most recognisable recurring motifs in Studio Ghibli’s visual universe.
