Origin and character lore

Shadows of the Empire is a Star Wars adventure developed as a major multimedia project in the 1990s. Its plot takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and notably introduces Prince Xizor, leader of the powerful Black Sun crime syndicate, who seeks to eliminate Luke Skywalker in order to increase his influence with the Emperor.

In this story, Leia Organa disguises herself as the Ubesian bounty hunter Boushh in order to obtain information about the Black Sun. However, the operation leads her straight to Xizor, who captures her. Luke and his companions then organise a rescue mission during which Luke poses as an Imperial guard. It is precisely these two disguises that are featured in The Black Series box set.

Boushh’s outfit also holds a special place in Leia’s story: it is the same one the character wears at the start of *Return of the Jedi* when she enters Jabba’s palace. The set thus pays direct homage to the 1996 ‘Shadows of the Empire’ figures whilst reinterpreting them in the modern 15 cm ‘The Black Series’ format.
