Origin and character background (Lore)
In Shrek, Shrek uses an onion to explain to Donkey that ogres have many layers, just like this vegetable. This comparison becomes one of the film’s most memorable exchanges and illustrates that the character is far more complex than he first appears.
Shrek is a solitary ogre living in a swamp, whose peaceful life is turned upside down when he finds himself swept up in an adventure alongside Donkey and Princess Fiona. Behind his gruff exterior and deliberately rustic behaviour, he proves to be sensitive, loyal and deeply devoted to his loved ones.
This mug therefore draws on an iconic reference from the saga and transforms the onion metaphor into a practical, collectable item for Shrek fans.
