Character background and lore

Gale Weathers is a journalist who has featured in the Scream franchise since the original 1996 film. Ambitious and determined, she covers the Woodsboro murders and regularly finds herself caught up in confrontations with the various killers who have adopted the Ghostface identity. Over the course of the films, she becomes one of the franchise’s main survivors alongside Sidney Prescott and Dewey Riley.

In *Scream* (2022), twenty-five years after the first murders in Woodsboro, a new Ghostface targets a group of teenagers and seeks to unearth the secrets of the past. Gale returns to Woodsboro and reunites with Sidney Prescott and Dewey Riley to help the new generation face this threat. Courteney Cox reprises the role she has played since the first film.
