Background and context of the character

Charles III is the monarch of the United Kingdom. He ascended the throne on 8 September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and was subsequently officially proclaimed King Charles III at the Accession Council held at St James’s Palace.

His coronation took place on 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London, during a ceremony at which the King and Queen Camilla were crowned.

Before his accession to the throne, Charles served as Prince of Wales for several decades and undertook numerous public and charitable engagements. As sovereign, he now carries out the constitutional and ceremonial duties associated with the British Head of State.
