Origin and character background (Lore)
In Pixar Studios’ critically acclaimed animated feature film *Ratatouille*, released in 2007, Rémy is a young field rat with a highly developed sense of smell and taste that sets him apart from the rest of his colony. Rather than feeding on scraps, he harbours an absolute, spiritual admiration for the late, great Michelin-starred chef Auguste Gusteau and dreams of becoming an exceptional chef himself in the heart of Paris. Separated from his family, he infiltrates the kitchens of the prestigious Parisian restaurant *Gusteau’s* and forms an unusual clandestine alliance with Alfredo Linguini, a clumsy young kitchen assistant with no talent whatsoever. Hiding beneath Linguini’s white chef’s hat to guide his movements invisibly by tugging at his hair, Rémy prepares revolutionary soups and gourmet dishes — including the legendary ratatouille that will move the formidable food critic Anton Ego — proving to the whole world the truth of the famous maxim: ‘Anyone can cook’.
