POPPY PLAYTIME - POP Games N° 1332 - Yarnaby

POPPY PLAYTIME – Yarnaby – POP! Games No. 1332

Meet Yarnaby, one of the standout creatures from Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4 – Safe Haven, with this POP! Games No. 1332 figure from Funko. This version captures the strange, multicoloured lion in the signature style of the POP! range, with an official height of approximately 9.4 cm.

Yarnaby is depicted on all fours with his imposing mane made up of strands resembling tufts of wool. This forms a veritable rainbow blending yellow, green, turquoise, blue, purple, red and orange. His broad orange face is dominated by two large black eyes and several small, triangular white teeth, whilst his paws end in imposing light-coloured claws. This deliberately colourful appearance contrasts sharply with the creature’s unsettling behaviour in the game.

Origin and character lore

Yarnaby was originally a lion-themed toy, marketed by Playtime Co. as part of a campaign dedicated to wildlife conservation in the 1970s. The character proved successful enough to remain on the market after the campaign ended.

Its gigantic version is designated Experiment 1166 and is one of the early successes of the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Harley Sawyer, alias The Doctor, deliberately manipulates Yarnaby’s emotional capabilities and isolates him so that Yarnaby develops absolute loyalty towards him. Following the ‘Hour of Joy’, the creature thus becomes the Doctor’s personal hunter in the Shelf, which explains his menacing role in Chapter 4: Safe Haven.

The contrast between his colourful, toy-like appearance and his predatory behaviour is one of the character’s key visual elements. POP! No. 1332 faithfully captures this identity with his rainbow mane, large black eyes and a four-legged stance, ready to pounce.
