POKEMON - Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle - 3 Puzzle 49P

Ravensburger brings together three iconic Pokémon from the Kanto region in this set comprising three separate jigsaw puzzles, each with 49 pieces. Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle each feature their own illustration, offering three colourful scenes to piece together. The level of difficulty and the shape of the pieces are specially designed for children aged 5 and over.

Each jigsaw puzzle features one of the three Pokémon in a setting associated with its world. Squirtle appears in front of a waterfall in a composition dominated by blue, Charmander is depicted in a natural landscape with orange tones, and Bulbasaur is shown amidst lush green foliage. Matching graphic borders for each character also make it easy to distinguish between the three illustrations.

With three different images in a single box, this set allows children to alternate between the puzzles whilst rediscovering three Pokémon particularly associated with the franchise’s early days. Ravensburger describes this 3 x 49-piece series as helping to develop young children’s concentration, observation skills and confidence as they piece the puzzles together.

Origin and background of the characters (Lore)

Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are among the very first Pokémon introduced in the franchise. In the National Pokédex, they are numbered 001, 004 and 007 respectively. Bulbasaur is a Grass/Poison-type, Charmander is a Fire-type and Squirtle is a Water-type.

These three Pokémon are primarily associated with the choice of first partner in the adventures set in the Kanto region. Each represents a different approach to battle and has its own evolutionary line: Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur and then Venusaur; Charmander evolves into Charmeleon and then Charizard; and Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then Blastoise.

Charmander is recognisable by the flame that burns constantly at the tip of its tail. Bulbasaur carries a seed on its back from birth, which grows with it as it evolves. Squirtle, meanwhile, has a shell that hardens rapidly after birth and mainly uses water-based attacks.

By dedicating a full illustration to each of them, this Ravensburger set brings together the historic Kanto starter Pokémon trio and allows young fans to explore their three distinct visual worlds separately within a single collection.
