Meet Shanks the Red, captain of the Red Pirates and one of the Four Emperors, with this Grandista Special Edition figurine from Banpresto / Bandai Spirits. Standing approximately 22 cm tall, this model is based on the Grandista sculpture dedicated to Shanks, enhanced with a spectacular translucent red effect evoking his Haki, which greatly accentuates the dynamic nature of the scene.
Shanks is depicted in a particularly tense combat stance, legs apart and sword drawn. His black cape billows behind him, whilst his patterned red trousers, open white shirt and sandals recreate his distinctive appearance. His face also features his red hair, light beard and the three scars running across his left eye. The translucent red effect adds depth to the attack and is the main visual distinction of this special edition.
The Grandista range focuses on large-scale figures and detailed sculpting to create a more striking display. Pre-painted and non-articulated, this version of Shanks is designed to be displayed directly in a display cabinet or alongside other One Piece characters.
Shanks the Red is the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates and one of the Four Emperors ruling the seas of the New World. In his youth, he sailed as a ship’s boy aboard Gol D. Roger’s ship, alongside Baggy, amongst others. The official One Piece website currently lists his bounty as 4,048,900,000 berrys, which illustrates his status as one of the most influential pirates of his time.
Shanks also plays a pivotal role in Monkey D. Luffy’s journey. Whilst staying in the village of Fuchsia, he saves the young Luffy from a sea monster at the cost of his left arm. Before setting sail again, he entrusts Luffy with his own straw hat and asks him to return it once he has become a great pirate. This promise becomes one of the cornerstones of Luffy’s dream.
Later, Shanks also intervenes at Marineford, where his arrival helps to bring an end to the war between the Marines and the pirates following the deaths of Ace and Whitebeard. His calm demeanour, influence and power allow him to command respect without constantly seeking confrontation. This Grandista Special Edition, however, chooses to highlight his warrior potential, with an offensive stance and a spectacular red effect that visually represents the power he exudes in battle.
