Based on the One Piece series, this Banpresto figurine depicts Portgas D. Ace during his imprisonment at Impel Down, shortly before the events leading up to the Battle of Marineford. Part of the World Collectable Figure (WCF) – Log Stories collection, it is not merely a representation of the character but a genuine mini-diorama recreating a memorable scene from the story. The set measures approximately 8 cm in height.
Ace is depicted sitting on the floor, chained and bare-chested, in front of the dark stone wall of his cell. His wrists are bound by heavy chains attached to the backdrop, whilst further shackles encircle his legs. His hunched posture, the visible marks on his body and his serious expression convey the particularly bleak atmosphere of his imprisonment. The display is completed by a sculpted brick floor and wall, which form an integral part of the composition.
The WCF Log Stories collection stands out for its compact format and its concept of recreating iconic scenes from One Piece in three dimensions. This version of Ace thus focuses on one of the pivotal moments leading up to Marineford: his imprisonment and the wait for his transfer to the site of his execution.
Portgas D. Ace, nicknamed ‘Ace the Blazing Fists’, is the commander of the Second Division of the Whitebeard Pirates and the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo. As the bearer of the Mera Mera no Mi, he possesses the power to create, control and transform himself into fire. The official One Piece website also states that Ace is the son of Gol D. Roger, the former Pirate King, a legacy that plays a decisive role in the events surrounding his capture.
After pursuing Marshall D. Teach / Blackbeard, who was responsible for the death of a member of his crew, Ace confronts him but is defeated. Teach then hands him over to the World Government, which announces his public execution at Marineford. Ace is imprisoned in Impel Down whilst awaiting his transfer, triggering Luffy’s desperate attempt to break into the vast underwater prison and free his brother.
Luffy makes his way through the various levels of Impel Down with the help of several allies, but arrives too late: Ace has already been taken to Marineford. Luffy then escapes from the prison and sets off in turn for the Marine Headquarters, where Whitebeard and his allies are preparing to wage a massive battle to save Ace.
This WCF Log Stories – Impel Down figurine is set precisely before this major confrontation and therefore depicts not Ace in the thick of battle, but the prisoner whose imminent execution becomes the catalyst for the War of Marineford.
