Origin and character background (Lore)

Buggy the Clown is the captain of Buggy’s crew and one of the first major pirates encountered by Monkey D. Luffy at the start of his adventure. In the Netflix live-action adaptation, he is played by Jeff Ward and adopts an unsettling clown-like appearance, combining blue hair, theatrical make-up and his famous red nose. Netflix describes him as an unstable pirate with a particular penchant for the limelight and public attention.

Buggy possesses the powers of the Fragmentation Fruit, known as the Chop-Chop Fruit in the English version of the series. This ability allows him to split his body into several pieces whilst continuing to control them, rendering slashing attacks largely ineffective against him. In the first season, he captures Luffy, Zoro and Nami in order to get his hands on their Grand Line map before ultimately being defeated by the young crew.

The character also shares a past with Shanks, the two having sailed together when they were younger. His theatrical nature, his obsession with his appearance and his visually spectacular power have made Buggy one of the most memorable characters in the Netflix adaptation. This Paladone lamp faithfully reproduces the face used in this live-action adaptation and transforms it into a decorative light.
