Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

Naruto Uzumaki is a young ninja from the Hidden Village of Konoha who dreams of becoming Hokage in order to gain everyone’s recognition. Rejected during his childhood because the nine-tailed fox demon Kurama is sealed within him, he later joins Team 7 alongside Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, under the leadership of Kakashi Hatake.

Sasuke Uchiha is Naruto’s teammate and main rival. As the heir to the Uchiha clan, he is haunted by the tragic disappearance of his family and, for much of the story, pursues his own quest for revenge. His exceptional talent and personal choices gradually drive him away from Konoha, giving rise to a rivalry that forms one of the series’ major narrative threads.

Despite their contrasting paths, Naruto and Sasuke remain deeply connected by their time together in Team 7. Their relationship evolves from rivalry between young ninjas to a much deeper conflict, before becoming one of the defining elements of the conclusion to Naruto Shippuden. The franchise’s official website lists them both as main characters in the anime, whose story notably follows Naruto’s development from his early days in Konoha to his rise as a great shinobi.
