Origin and background of the character
Johnny Cage (whose real name is Jonathan Carlton) is one of the longest-standing and most popular characters in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise, originally created by Midway. This figure is based on his appearance in the 2025 film adaptation. A Hollywood action film star who appears narcissistic and superficial, Johnny Cage initially joins the tournament to prove to critics and the public that he does not use special effects and that he is a genuine martial arts master. Recruited by Raiden, the God of Thunder, he quickly realises the gravity of the situation and puts his immense fighting talent at the service of the Earth Realm. Known for his sharp-tongued retorts, his iconic sunglasses and his famous groin punch, he establishes himself as an indispensable defender of humanity against the forces of the Otherworld.
