Origin and background of the work (Lore)
Created by the Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson, Snorkmaiden belongs to the Snork species, creatures very similar to the Moomins but with the unique ability to change colour according to their emotions. Moomin’s girlfriend and constant companion, she is characterised by her romantic nature, her perfectly combed blonde fringe and her golden anklet. Deeply feminine and dreamy, she adores jewellery and fashion, and spends a great deal of time in front of her mirror imagining floral outfits. Her dressing table symbolises her innocent coquetry and gentleness. Despite her sometimes vain or superficial nature, she displays remarkable courage and a lifesaving presence of mind during the valley’s adventures, bringing a touch of grace and charm to the community.
