Origin and background of the character (Lore)
Created in 1945 by the Finnish novelist and illustrator Tove Jansson, Moomintroll (often simply called Moomin) is a curious, sensitive and deeply kind little white troll who lives with his parents in a large blue house in the heart of an idyllic valley. The Moomin universe places great emphasis on the philosophy of taking things slowly, respecting natural rhythms and appreciating life’s simple pleasures. This set perfectly illustrates the concept of ‘Leisurely time’ (time for leisure or simply taking it easy), a way of life dear to the hero. Whether it’s lying in the grass watching the clouds drift by, collecting smooth pebbles by the riverbank or daydreaming in the spring sunshine, through these moments of contemplation, Moomin reminds us of the importance of taking time out to savour the peace of the world around us.
