Meet Scar, the iconic antagonist from *The Lion King*, with this Funko POP! Disney figurine No. 1801 from the Meme collection. This edition recreates one of the character’s most famous lines, depicting him perched on a plinth bearing the inscription ‘I’m surrounded by idiots’. The vinyl figure stands approximately 10.4 cm tall.
Scar is depicted in the characteristic Funko POP! style, with his brown coat, black mane, green eyes and the scar running across his left eye. Seated in a haughty pose true to his character, he rests on a green base featuring the famous phrase. This design thus transforms a line from the film – which has become popular as a meme – into an official Disney collectable.
Made from PVC/vinyl, this POP! figure comes in the traditional Funko display box. It joins the Disney Villains collection and offers an original take on Scar, focusing more on his sarcastic humour and contempt for his allies than on an action scene.
Scar is Mufasa’s brother and Simba’s uncle in The Lion King. Before the birth of the young lion cub, he was next in line to the throne of the Pride Lands. Simba’s arrival upends his ambitions and drives Scar to devise a plan to eliminate his brother and nephew so that he himself can become king. Disney describes him as a character whose lack of physical strength is offset by great cunning.
To achieve his ends, Scar allies himself with the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, whom he uses as his henchmen. He causes the wildebeest stampede that leads to Mufasa’s death, then manipulates Simba into believing he is responsible for the tragedy. Once his nephew has been exiled, Scar seizes the throne, but his reign gradually leads the Pride Lands into decline.
The line ‘I’m surrounded by idiots’ is indeed a line spoken by Scar in the original film and refers to his exasperation with the hyenas in his entourage. It has since become one of his most recognisable quotes and a widely circulated meme in popular culture. Funko capitalises precisely on this humorous aspect for this POP! No. 1801, incorporating the phrase directly into the figure’s base.
