Origin and character background
The character of Gimli is rooted in the fantasy world of Middle-earth, created by the writer J.R.R. Tolkien and adapted for the screen by the director Peter Jackson. In this work of fiction, Gimli is a highly respected Dwarf warrior and an official member of the Fellowship of the Ring. During the war against the antagonist Sauron at the end of the Third Age, he distinguished himself as the sole representative of his people to fight directly alongside the Elves and Men for the destruction of the One Ring.
