Origin and character’s universe
In the dark and dystopian plot of the graphic novel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, New York City has fallen under the tyrannical rule of Oroku Hiroto, Shredder’s grandson. Donatello’s fate is one of the major tragedies that led to the downfall of the Hamato clan. As the brightest mind among his brothers, Donnie accompanies his master Splinter to Japan to attempt to seal a peace agreement with the Foot Clan. Unfortunately, this truce turns out to be a Machiavellian trap. Ambushed by relentless waves of cyborg ninjas, Donatello fights a desperate and fierce battle, using his inventions and his Bo staff to protect his master. His heroic sacrifice alongside Splinter marks the definitive loss of the group’s technological knowledge, bequeathing his sacred weapon to the sole masked survivor to carry out their final revenge.
