Origin and character background (Lore)
In Hayao Miyazaki’s 1989 masterpiece, *Kiki’s Delivery Service*, Jiji is the talking black cat and the young Kiki’s inseparable confidant. He accompanies her on her family’s traditional journey, which involves leaving home for a year to complete her training as a witch in a new town. With a cautious, slightly sarcastic yet deeply endearing personality, Jiji often acts as the voice of reason in the face of his mistress’s impulsive outbursts. His close bond with Kiki lies at the heart of the film, symbolising the transition from childhood to adulthood. This Komorebi edition perfectly celebrates the camaraderie, mischief and timeless charm of this iconic character from Japanese animation.
