Origin and concept of the collection
Funko's Kawaii Foodies collection is directly inspired by the "kawaii" cultural and aesthetic movement, which emerged in Japan in the 1970s and is characterised by representations of characters or animals with childlike, cute and simplified features. This specific range fuses elements of popular world cuisine - in this case, ramen, a traditional Japanese dish of noodles in a broth - with pets that are popular for their graphic appearance, such as the Shiba Inu, a breed of dog native to the Japanese archipelago that has become a recurring figure in pop culture and cute contemporary illustrations.
