Origin and background of the character
Created by Naoya Matsumoto, the globally successful manga Kaiju No. 8 plunges readers into a contemporary Japan under constant attack from giant monsters known as Kaijus. To counter this apocalypse, the Japan Defence Forces (JAKDF) deploy heavily armed elite troops. Kafka Hibino is a 32-year-old man who originally worked for the Monster Sweeper clean-up team, tasked with clearing away the monsters’ corpses after battles. Despite past failures, his encounter with Reno Ichikawa rekindles his determination to keep the childhood promise he made to Mina Ashiro: to join the Defence Forces alongside her. His life is turned upside down when a small creature forcibly invades his body, granting him the ability to transform at will into an all-powerful humanoid Kaiju known by the code name ‘Kaiju No. 8’. This Funko Pop! figurine faithfully captures his human appearance, clad in the army’s official grey and black uniform.
