Slow Dancer is an 11-year-old Appaloosa ridden by Johnny Joestar during the Steel Ball Run. He bears the number 939 and stands out for his experience and stamina, despite being older than many of the other horses entered in the competition. Initially difficult to control, he gradually develops a genuine bond of trust with Johnny and becomes his companion throughout the race.
The Steel Ball Run takes place in the United States in 1890 and centres on a massive transcontinental horse race spanning approximately 4,000 miles. Johnny, a former jockey of great talent who has become paralysed from the waist down, decides to take part after meeting Gyro Zeppeli and discovering the mysterious phenomenon known as ‘Rotation’. The series’ official website explicitly identifies Slow Dancer as Johnny’s mount.
The choice of Slow Dancer also holds particular significance in Johnny’s journey. Thanks to his experience and ability to navigate difficult terrain, the horse becomes indispensable to his progress in the competition and plays a direct role in his learning of techniques related to Rotation whilst riding. MASTERLISE thus transforms one of the fundamental elements of *Steel Ball Run* into a genuine collector’s item in its own right, whilst being designed to carry Johnny Joestar on its back.
