Character background and universe (Lore)
In the expanded lore of Hunter x Hunter, Killua Zoldyck is the third son of the famous family of professional assassins from Mount Kukuroo. Subjected from a very young age to rigorous training designed to build resistance to torture, electricity and poisons, his life is irrevocably turned on its head when he flees the family estate to sit the Hunter exam out of sheer boredom. His close bond with Gon Freecss awakens in him an absolute loyalty and a deep desire to break free from the criminal ambitions dictated by his clan. During his initiation, he proves himself to be a precocious user of Transformation Nen, converting his spiritual aura into devastating electric shocks. This development gives rise to his ultimate techniques, the Narukami and the Godspeed, transforming this heir—once haunted by darkness—into a protector and an elite fighter indispensable to the survival of his companions.
