Origin and character background (Lore)
In the expanded Vocaloid lore, Hatsune Miku is a Japanese virtual idol developed in 2007 by Crypton Future Media, whose name literally means ‘the first sound of the future’. Her creation took an irreversible turn when her voice – synthesised from recordings by voice actress Saki Fujita – was made available to users worldwide, enabling a global community of composers to set their own lyrics and melodies to it. Depicted as a sixteen-year-old girl with long turquoise pigtails, she quickly became a global cultural phenomenon, performing virtually on stage at immersive holographic concerts. Thanks to her infinite, collaboratively created musical repertoire, Hatsune Miku transcends physical boundaries to establish herself as a universal artistic entity, indispensable to the evolution of contemporary pop and digital music.
