Origin and background of the character
Shinsuke Takasugi is one of the most complex and iconic major antagonists in the cult classic Gintama, the historical action-parody manga created by Hideaki Sorachi. A former comrade-in-arms of the protagonist Gintoki Sakata during the Joui’s bitter war against the Amanto invasion, he categorically refuses to lay down his arms after the defeat. Consumed by vengeance and regret following the tragic death of their mutual master, Yoshida Shouyou, he founded the Kiheitai, a radical extremist faction aiming to destroy the corrupt world he so detests. Distinguished by his left eye concealed beneath bandages, his kiseru (traditional pipe) and his purple yukata adorned with golden butterflies, he embodies tragic elegance. Banpresto’s “Desk Figure” collection draws on all its expertise to faithfully recreate the patterns of his clothing and his piercing gaze, offering enthusiasts an essential piece to adorn their space.
