GI JOE - Shipwreck & Althea - Figure Classified Series #230 15cm

This Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series No. 230 figure depicts Shipwreck accompanied by his parrot, Althea. Measuring approximately 15 cm, it offers a modern take on the famous naval commando from the G.I. Joe team, featuring detailed sculpting, numerous points of articulation and eight accessories inspired by his maritime specialities. Hasbro presents this version as the debut of Shipwreck and his companion Althea in the Classified Series range.

The design retains several elements immediately associated with the character. Shipwreck wears a blue sailor’s cap, a dark blue ribbed jumper, a black tactical harness, gloves and various pieces of equipment attached to his legs. A large gold belt buckle adorned with a compass rose and a shark is a direct nod to his maritime identity. The figure also features a visor helmet fitted with green lenses, adding a more modern and tactical touch to his classic appearance.

Althea is depicted as a parrot who can accompany Shipwreck in his various display set-ups. Her predominantly grey plumage is complemented by a lighter patch around her face and red feathers on her tail. The set of accessories includes, amongst other things, a coiled rope, a grappling hook, a knife, Althea, the optical device and several weapons. Hasbro has announced a total of eight accessories.

Like the other Classified Series releases, this figure features multiple points of articulation designed for posing, photography and creating dioramas. The No. 230 window box features Shipwreck with his equipment and incorporates the symbols from his character sheet as well as an original illustration.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Shipwreck, whose real name is Hector X. Delgado, is one of the G.I. Joe team’s naval specialists. His background information states that he is originally from Chula Vista, California, and grew up near the naval facilities in San Diego. He joined the navy at a very young age and gained extensive maritime experience before joining the G.I. Joe team. His primary military specialism is Gunner’s Mate, whilst his skills also cover mechanics and various naval operations.

Shipwreck is capable of manoeuvring vessels, navigating in rough waters, repairing and splicing cables, and calculating firing solutions. His experience and knowledge of maritime operations make him the team’s natural specialist when missions involve ships, ports or infiltration by sea. His personality, however, contrasts with his professionalism: he is traditionally portrayed as a talkative, self-assured sailor with a penchant for wildly exaggerated tales.

The character first appeared in the 1980s in *G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero* and became particularly recognisable thanks to his sailor’s uniform and his parrot. The original 1985 action figure came with Polly, his long-standing companion. This Classified Series No. 230 offers a fresh take on the concept by pairing Shipwreck with a parrot named Althea, whilst retaining the nautical references that have defined the character since his earliest appearances.
