Origin and character background (Lore)

Mr Satan, also known as Hercules in some Western adaptations, is a martial arts champion who is extremely popular with the general public in the Dragon Ball Z universe.

Unlike Goku, Vegeta or Gohan, he does not master ki and is a far cry from the true calibre of the Z fighters. He compensates for this weakness, however, with a tremendous flair for the dramatic, unshakeable confidence and a remarkable ability to take credit for events he does not always fully understand.

He nevertheless plays a more important role than he appears to, particularly during the Majin Buu saga. His unexpected relationship with Buu reveals a much more human side to the character and directly contributes to several decisive events in the story.

Behind his arrogance and his comical side, Mr Satan is therefore an endearing character, capable of courage when it matters most. His contrast with the super-powerful warriors of Dragon Ball makes him one of the series’ most memorable comic figures.
