Origin and character background (Lore)

Frieza is one of the most iconic antagonists in the Dragon Ball saga. A cruel and ruthless galactic emperor, he commands a vast army and rules over many worlds through fear.

After his defeat at the hands of Son Goku on Namek, Frieza returns several times throughout the saga. In Dragon Ball Super, he finally decides to train seriously in order to surpass the Saiyans, something he had hardly ever done before.

This training enables him to achieve a new transformation: Golden Frieza. This form considerably increases his power and allows him to rival Goku and Vegeta in their god forms.

Recognisable by his golden colour and purple markings, Golden Frieza symbolises both the character’s pride and his desire to surpass those who have humiliated him. This transformation has become one of Frieza’s most popular and memorable incarnations in the Dragon Ball Super universe.
