Character background and universe (Lore)

Bulma is one of the very first characters Son Goku meets in Dragon Ball. A particularly brilliant young scientist and daughter of the founder of Capsule Corporation, at the start of the story she sets off on a journey to find the seven Dragon Balls using the radar she designed herself.

Her encounter with Goku marks the true starting point of the series. Although she is not a fighter, her intelligence, inventions and technological knowledge play a vital role in numerous adventures, from the search for the Dragon Balls right through to much later events in the franchise.
