DRAGON BALL - Android 8 & Son Goku - Fig. VS Red Ribbon Army 25cm

Based on Dragon Ball, this Bandai Spirits / Banpresto figurine brings together Android 8 and the young Son Goku in a scene inspired by the Red Ribbon Army arc. Part of the Ichibansho MASTERLISE PLUS range, it stands approximately 25 cm tall and celebrates the friendship that develops between the two characters during the events at Muscle Tower.

The sculpture plays on the contrast between Android 8’s imposing build and Goku’s small stature. The cyborg is depicted with his square face, black hair, wide coat and the distinctive clothing characteristic of this part of the series, whilst Goku appears in his childhood form, wearing his martial arts outfit and sporting his instantly recognisable spiky hairstyle. The piece focuses on a scene bringing the two characters together rather than a simple individual pose.

The MASTERLISE PLUS collection builds on the concept of the large MASTERLISE figures by offering more elaborate compositions featuring several characters or additional elements. The 25 cm scale gives Android 8 a commanding presence whilst maintaining Son Goku’s relative proportions, making this piece particularly well-suited for display alongside other items from the VS Red Ribbon Army series.

Origin and character lore

Android 8 is a robot created by the Red Ribbon Army. Despite his military design and considerable strength, he has an extremely peaceful nature and refuses to harm others. He is imprisoned in the Muscle Tower, the base of General White’s company, located near the snow-covered village of Jingle.

When Sergeant Murasaki fails to eliminate Goku, he releases Android 8 and orders him to fight the young boy. Android 8 categorically refuses due to his benevolent nature. Murasaki then threatens to detonate the bomb implanted in his body, but Goku intervenes and prevents the ninja from carrying out his plan. This encounter marks the beginning of their friendship.

Goku soon gives Android 8 the affectionate nickname ‘Hatchan’. The two continue their ascent of the Muscle Tower together and face, amongst others, Buyon, a creature whose elastic body initially resists Goku’s attacks. Android 8 then accompanies his new friend to the top of the tower, where General White awaits them.

During this confrontation, General White treacherously shoots Goku. Seeing his friend injured finally prompts Android 8 to abandon his pacifism for a few moments: overcome with anger, he strikes the general and puts an end to the threat. After the destruction of the Muscle Tower, Hatchan chooses to stay with the inhabitants of Jingle Village. Goku also discovers that his new friend possessed the two-star Dragon Ball he had been searching for.

This Android 8 & Son Goku – VS Red Ribbon Army figurine is therefore based on one of the most heart-warming scenes from the first Dragon Ball series: the encounter between a young fighter always ready to take on his opponents and a robot created as a weapon but who deeply prefers peace.
